What is a Industrial Symbiosis?

Industrial symbiosis is defined as the cooperation of independent industrial enterprises to provide mutual benefit by sharing resources that can be used in common. Industrial symbiosis is based on the principle of establishing a symbiotic relationship similar to the symbiotic relationship seen in natural ecosystems and formed by different species for industrial ecosystems. In industrial symbiosis practices, all resources such as waste, by-products, energy, water, equipment, superstructure and human resources that are underutilized by enterprises are integrated into the production systems of other enterprises as inputs.
