What is a Nature-based solution?

Nature-based solutions support climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas emission mitigation by using natural systems and processes to restore ecosystems, conserve biodiversity and enable sustainable livelihoods. These are actions that prioritize ecosystems and biodiversity and are designed and implemented with the full participation and consent of local communities.

Examples include green roofs, urban parks and gardens, restoring wetlands, savannas and other ecosystems, protecting mangrove forests, or shifting to restorative agricultural practices.
