What is a Bioplastics?

Bioplastics are plastics derived from renewable energies that use nature's resources instead of traditional plastics made from petroleum derivatives, a type of non-renewable energy. There are two types of bioplastics. The first is Polylactic Acid (PLA), which is produced from corn starch and sugar found in beets. The other is produced from microorganisms that can convert organic matter into plastic. Most, if not all, bioplastics are also biodegradable. Those that are not biodegradable are not as harmful to the environment as traditional plastics, which never self-destruct.
